Looking out of the window these days you might not believe it, but summer is actually here. And for how limited travel abroad is, chances are you are planning a little getaway.
Well, at least a lot of our clients are… and some of them feel so nervous at the thought! Being in lockdown made it somewhat easier to lose weight if this was your goal: no social events, meals out, holidays…
And now what? How not to undo all the hard work with just a couple of weeks away? How not to let your diet ruin your holiday mood?
As usual, your aceSHEROES are coming to the rescue!
Don’t stress too much over a couple of weeks off. Remember where you started in your journey and what you have achieved so far. Did it take you two weeks to get into the shape that you so badly wanted to change? Unlikely! So why do you think that these two weeks could bring you back to your starting point? Remember: you no longer are the same person you used to be. If you take a moment to reflect, you will soon realise that you probably now enjoy exercising, being active and taking care of your nutrition. You have probably found something you enjoy and that works for you and your goal. You now know which principles to apply to get back on track and you will have created habits that two weeks won’t erase. While you might let yourself go a little, you will also notice that you will naturally make choices that align with your goal even if not being strict.
Going to the gym or training might not be as easy with your sweet little pests around. Are you going to suddenly lose your muscle and fitness progress? No chance! Try to keep your activity levels up, and these include anything from doing some body weight exercise at home (involve your partner and kids, it will be so much fun!), play with your kids, take them to a park, go to an indoor swimming pool or trampoline park, ditch the car and go for long walks, go on hikes, indoor rock climbs, treks… the options are endless! People often think that only planned exercise counts as activity, without realising that it’s only a tiny part of our lives and that just moving about can have a much greater impact on our fitness and goals. As an added bonus, these activities will allow you to spend quality time with the family and everyone will benefit from a boost of happy hormones! And think of how peacefully your kids will go to bed after having been active all day. I’d call this a win-win!
Fire up a bbq, make simple recipes, pack them with nutritious foods, herbs and spices and get your kids to help you cook. This is a simple way to keep the children entertained while reducing meals out. With this one simple trick, you will be able to stay on track while teaching your kids about food so that they are likely to grow up having a good relationship with it. Who knows, maybe you’ll even get them to enjoy greens and vegetables in the process!
As you can probably see, these tricks can easily be implemented at any time, holiday or not. These are great ways to build a positive and supportive environment that is going to highly increase your chances of success, whatever your goal. Sometimes our family can be lovingly unsupportive of our goals – yes, it sounds like a contradiction, but how many times has a family member or friend told you “oh, just have some cake this time only” or “you look great, you don’t need to lose weight” when you were trying to drop a couple of kgs? These comments generally come from a place of love, but they can be demoralising and unhelpful. So making your family actively experience your journey is a great way to give them an insight into your motifs and strategy. This is likely to change their attitude and you will see how they will become more supportive and they will push you when you feel like giving up.
