TL;DR
Most enquiries about one to one personal training open with price and availability. The real question underneath is what actually happens when you turn up. Here it is: your first session is a 60-minute consultation, not a fitness test, covering training history, injuries, movement, your schedule and a clear plan for the next 8 to 10 weeks. After that, sessions run 30, 45 or 60 minutes, once or twice a week, with the programme adjusted every session rather than every block. You train with Anna or Charlotte, or a matched aceTEAM coach, and it's the same coach each time. Sessions happen at the Hendon studio in NW4, at home across NW London, or online. There's no fixed contract, 24 hours' notice moves a session, and you can message your coach in between.
Key takeaways
- Your first session is a 60-minute consultation: movement assessment, baseline fitness, mobility check, and a plan for the next 8 to 10 weeks. It isn't a test you can fail
- Sessions run 30, 45 or 60 minutes, once or twice a week. One strong session a week beats three half-hearted ones
- The programme is adjusted at every session rather than every block, around the niggle, the event, or the week that went sideways
- You train with Anna or Charlotte, or an aceTEAM coach matched to you, and it's the same coach every session for as long as you stay
- Three formats: the Hendon studio in NW4, at home across NW London with an aceTEAM coach, or fully online. You can mix them as life changes
- No fixed contract and no minimum term. 24 hours' notice moves a session, and you can message your coach between them
Nearly every enquiry we get about one to one personal training opens with price or availability. The question sitting underneath it is usually a different one: what actually happens when I turn up, and will I be able to do it?
That's a fair thing to wonder, and the industry has done a poor job of answering it. Most personal training pages tell you about results and say almost nothing about the hour itself.
So here's the hour itself, from a coaching team based in Hendon.
What does one to one personal training actually involve?
A coach, you, and a plan that gets adjusted around you at every session rather than every block.
That last part is the bit that makes it different from a programme you follow. A written plan is a good guess made on a Monday. A coached session is a plan that gets rewritten in front of you, because you slept badly, or your knee flared on Sunday, or you've got a wedding in three months and you'd like to feel good in the dress.
There's form coaching built into every session, which is the other reason to pay for a person rather than an app. Someone watching you move can tell you you're pulling with the wrong thing before it becomes a sore back in November.
Your first session is a consultation, not a test
The first one is longer, 60 minutes, and there's very little in it you could fail at.
We go through your training history, any previous injuries, how you actually move, how confident you feel, your goals, your schedule, and your nutrition if that's relevant to you. There's a movement assessment, a baseline of your fitness as it is today, and a mobility check.
Plenty of women arrive expecting to be run into the ground so we can see what they're made of. That isn't the goal, and it never has been. The point of session one is that by the end of it, you know what we'd recommend for the next 8 to 10 weeks, and you know why.
Better sessions aren't always harder sessions. The right amount of challenge creates progress. Too much too soon creates inconsistency.
Week to week, what changes and what doesn't
What doesn't change is the direction. What changes is almost everything else.
Sessions run weekly or twice weekly, and we adjust continuously based on how you're moving, recovering and progressing. Every 8 to 10 weeks we sit down properly and review what's working, what isn't, and what's next. There's no fixed end date, which is why a lot of clients are still here years later. Charlotte has clients who've trained with her for more than five years.
Between sessions you can message your coach directly. That's where the "can I swap this", "is this ache normal" and "I'm away next week, what should I do" questions get answered, which is usually the difference between a wobble and a month off.
Who you'll be training with
You'll work with Anna or Charlotte, or one of our aceTEAM coaches, and it'll be the same person every session for as long as you stay.
Anna and Charlotte are MNU-certified nutritionists and Level 3 personal trainers who specialise in coaching women over 40. Charlotte's clients tend to be women who want strength and longevity and a coach who genuinely understands hormonal change. Anna is the one to ask for if you're rebuilding after pregnancy or a long break and want to trust your body again.
The aceTEAM coaches are qualified, experienced trainers who come to you, each with their own area of expertise, matched to your goals rather than to whoever's free that evening.
Who you start with is who you stay with.
Where the session happens
Three formats, and you can move between them as life changes.
We don't work out of chain gyms, and if you've ever trained in one at half past six on a Tuesday you'll know why. Women come to the studio from Hendon, Mill Hill, Finchley, Golders Green and the surrounding NW London postcodes, and the at-home option covers the same patch for anyone who'd rather not add a drive to the session.
What it asks of you
This is the part worth being straight about, because one to one personal training asks for more than a subscription does.
It asks you to commit to at least 8 to 10 weeks of consistent sessions, because that's the window where the work starts compounding rather than just happening. It asks you to pick a slot you can realistically keep. And it asks you to tell your coach the truth about your week, which is harder than it sounds when you've had a bad one.
What it doesn't ask for is a long contract. There's no minimum term, you can cancel future sessions whenever you like, and we need 24 hours' notice to move one without charge. Sessions are priced individually by length, so the 30, 45 and 60-minute formats sit at different rates, and you'll get a tailored quote on the free 20-minute discovery call once we know how often you want to train and where.
What a session doesn't involve
No shouting. No being punished to prove you deserved the hour. No generic template with your name typed at the top. No being handed to whoever's available while the coach you chose takes someone else.
And no all-or-nothing. If you've had a fortnight of broken sleep and takeaways, that's information for the session, not a confession. The plan bends around a bad week. That's most of what you're paying a human being for.
Is one to one the right format for you?
It tends to suit women who want a coach who knows them week to week, who'd rather have one strong session than three half-hearted ones, and who have something specific going on: an event, an injury, a return after years away.
It's a poor fit if you want to train ad hoc with no plan, or if the cheapest option in London is the deciding factor.
If you're still weighing it up, two things worth reading. Our guide to finding a female personal trainer in NW London covers what to look for in any coach who works with women over 40, and how to choose a personal trainer in London has the questions to ask before you commit to anybody, us included. Most of what we programme for women in their 40s leans on strength work, and the reasoning behind that is set out in why strength training matters more after 40.
Where to go next
If the hour we've just described sounds like the one you've been looking for, the personal training page has the full picture: the three formats, what's included, how the nutrition side works, and what our long-term clients say about it.
The next step is a free 20-minute discovery call. You tell us the goal, the starting point and the schedule, and we'll tell you honestly whether one to one is the right format or whether something else would serve you better. Nothing to commit to until you've met us.

Frequently asked
What actually happens in a first one to one personal training session?
It's a longer session, 60 minutes, and it's more conversation than workout. We go through your training history, any injuries or niggles, how you're moving, how you're sleeping, what your week actually looks like, and what you want out of this. There's a movement assessment, a baseline of where your fitness is now, and a mobility check. It isn't a test, and there's nothing to prove. By the end you'll know what we'd recommend for the next 8 to 10 weeks and why we'd recommend it.
How long is a session, and how often should I train?
Sessions run 30, 45 or 60 minutes, and most women train once or twice a week. We'll work out the right length and cadence with you on the discovery call, based on your goal and your schedule rather than a house rule. One properly coached session a week that you actually keep beats three rushed ones you resent. The 30-minute format runs online and suits people fitting training into a working day.
Will I train with the same coach every time?
Yes. You'll work with Anna or Charlotte, or one of our aceTEAM coaches, and that's who you stay with. We're not a franchise and we don't pass you around when someone's diary gets busy. It matters more than it sounds: a coach who watched you move last week is the one who can tell whether your shoulder is genuinely better or you're just being polite about it.
What happens between sessions?
You've got direct message access to your coach, so the quick questions get answered without waiting a week. What do I swap this for. Is this ache normal. I'm away for a fortnight, what should I do. That's what it's there for, and it's usually where the plan gets adjusted before a small problem becomes a missed month.
How much does one to one personal training cost in NW London?
Sessions are priced individually depending on length, so the 30, 45 and 60-minute formats all sit at different rates and there's a format to suit most budgets. You'll get a tailored quote on your free 20-minute discovery call, based on how often you want to train, whether you're coming to the Hendon studio or having a coach come to you, and whether you want a personalised nutrition plan added. Nothing is decided before you've spoken to us.
