“When will I see change?” is one of the questions we get asked most often by our ace clients.
Exercise is awesome for keeping you energised and your body #fitstronghealthy, but if it’s visible changes to your body that you’re after then you have to make sure that your diet is taken care of too.
“You cannot out-train a bad diet”
“Abs are made in the kitchen”
These are all things you might have heard from fellow fitness professionals… and that’s because, in the main, they are all TRUE!
Great nutrition goes hand-in-hand with exercise, and because here at ace Lifestyle we are all about helping you improve your exercise and diet for a generally healthier lifestyle we have prepared some top tips for you which you can use in your own homes:
Write a food diary everyday for a week. Write down everything you eat and drink at the exact time that you eat it. This is a really helpful tool as it will show you where you might be tripping up and will give you the opportunity to cut out the non-essentials .
Drink loads of water – at least 2 litres a day, every day. Start in the morning when you get up and keep drinking steadily throughout the day (see our blog on H2O here).
Plan your meals and snacks in advance and categorise them into:
This leaves no room for error and you won’t unintentionally nosh on pointless calories.
Write a shopping list to ensure that you have everything in your kitchen to cook healthy meals for you and your family.
Do your best not to eat after supper. Easier said than done, we know, but hundreds of calories can be consumed without even realising it whilst sitting on the couch watching TV.
Make sure to eat a balanced diet consisting of the essential macro nutrients your body needs – proteins, fats & carbohydrates (which leads us onto the next one)…
DO NOT SKIP CARBOHYDRATES! This is in capitals because carbohydrates get such bad press (click here to see previous blog). It’s essential to keep complex carbohydrates in your diet, especially if you are exercising!!! Think wholegrain/whole-wheat as a good example.
